Fall in Utah 2008 (1)
这是今年我最期待的旅程，记得当时感触颇多，但时过半月,已经忘记了大半。
没有Presentation的压力, 我完全是怀着度假的心情参加GIScience 2008. 唯一的任务只是跟某位大牛打个招呼.
对美国的第一印象就是这是一个非常依赖汽车的国家。这里有宽阔的道路，大排量的汽车和极其少量的公共交通，就连药店和ATM机都有Drive Thru，让你足不出车就能享受所有的服务。 满街跑的都是全尺寸SUV和pick up。 一台台悍马，林肯领航者，凯迪拉克凯雷德驰骋在广阔的犹他盆地里， 一点也不显大。 终于也理解到石油对这个国家是多么的重要。
Salt Lake City是一个Boring的城市. NBA还没开始, 几乎没有任何东西提起我的兴趣. 刚到的那天, 陪同事参观了摩门教的Temple和一个conference centre. 唯一令我心情愉快的是跟几个摩门教里的台湾MM搭了会讪。当天下午就直接杀向会议举办地，Park City.
没有雪的Park City，一样是Boring。 不过秋天倒是把远处的山弄得五颜六色的。因为没有到滑雪的季节，很多参观都没有开门。只有从一个个静止的缆车和山上一条条雪道的痕迹可以想象的到这里冬天会多么热闹。
比起SC 2008, 我对GIScience 2008更感兴趣, 因为这才是我的老本行. 虽然本领域的大牛都齐聚在这里, 但Paper的质量倒是很难令人恭维. 多少也增添了我投会议的信心. 会议所在酒店设施齐全， 还有个恒温游泳池和Jakuzi, 我们挑了个空闲的下午， 享受了一番。Conference结束后，假期彻底开始。 我们回到盐湖城提车。 我原本以为又是一台小破车，没想到同时干脆选了台准SUV（丰田RV-4），然后从盐湖城一路向南。
在美国，我需要重新调整空间的概念。开4个小时车，在欧洲很容易就出国了，但在美国，连一个州都无法逾越。 驰骋在Utah广阔的原野上，让人心情豁然开朗, 很容易就望着远处的山脉就陷入遐想。但是开车的同事倒是觉得Boring，说在这样路宽车少的情况下还开手动档的车， 完全没有任何Challenge。

在Utah， 9月是降雨最少的一个月份，每天都是这样的大晴天

[...] 小雪节气，周岁那天的小侄女，写了个豆瓣Gtalk/XMPP/Jabber机器人玩，为了奖赏她，我又买了五本书，作为礼物送给她，分别是白腹姬鹟，秃鼻乌鸦，小嘴乌鸦，大嘴乌鸦，达乌里寒鸦，本来还想买《“每日一鸟”喜迎11月11日——四声杜鹃》，因为外文书不易得，可惜想到某些书是有时候，徒有虚名，所以还是算了。决定亲自带她去参加2008年野鸭湖第七届北京高校观鸟赛。但是小侄女毕竟人小腿短，只走了四十八分之一的路程，就Fall in Utah了。我不知道该怎样表扬与批评，只好让她又写了一篇记人作文之W君，然后送了她香满堂的脐橙。 [...]
